The man killed in a deputy-involved shooting earlier this week was armed with a machete and tried to get a rifle before deputies opened fire on him in a Stater Bros. parking lot in Hesperia, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
On Tuesday evening, sheriff’s officials released more information on the Monday afternoon incident, saying the 33-year-old Barstow man was wanted for attempted murder, residential robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in the Barstow area.
Following an “extensive investigation” deputies from the sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division determined the suspect’s whereabouts, eventually locating him at about 1:30 p.m. Monday in the rain-soaked parking lot of the Stater Bros. Markets grocery store at Main and Eighth streets in Hesperia.
