Police: Man dead following snowmobile crash in northern New York Share Updated: 12:03 PM EST Mar 1, 2021 NBC5 News Share Updated: 12:03 PM EST Mar 1, 2021 A 57-year-old man is dead after a snowmobile crash involving two sleds in northern New York on Friday. According to state police, the crash happened just before 11 a.m. Troopers said Richard Button, of Gansevoort, was driving on a maintained trail near Bellmont when he hit another snowmobile traveling in the opposite direction. Button was ejected from his sled during the crash and hit the other snowmobile, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County coroner. The other driver, a 48-year-old Massena resident, was also ejected from their sled and sustained minor injuries, police said. An autopsy for Button is scheduled for Monday morning at the University of Vermont Healthcare Network at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.
