jdagostino@observertoday.com New York state intends to follow the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s new recommendations on outdoor mask use for fully vaccinated people. Released Tuesday, the guidelines state that fully vaccinated people defined as two or more weeks after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine no longer need to wear masks outdoors, except in certain crowded settings and venues. However, masks should still be worn indoors and by people who are not fully vaccinated. This guidance re-emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated and closely adhering to public health guidance, particularly if you are not yet vaccinated.

COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Are Available Locally | News, Sports, Jobs

Dozens of COVID-19 vaccine doses are available at a local pharmacy. Pharmacy Innovations, located at 863 Fairmount Ave., Jamestown, has 80 doses of the Moderna vaccine that need to be used by Tuesday. Courtney Messina, Pharmacy Innovations quality assurance director, said the vaccine is free to those who want to sign up, which can be done online by visiting pharmacyinnovations.net or by calling 484-1586. She said people receiving the vaccine will have their second shot appointment scheduled during their visit. The pharmacy is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Messina said the pharmacy is also offering COVID-19 rapid and PCR tests as well.

Overall, there have been 8,744 cases with 209 currently active and 8,391 recoveries. There has been 144 deaths linked to the virus locally. The positivity rate over seven days was 2.4% while hospitalizations decreased by one from 13 to 12. The statewide rate was 2.9% with Western New York having the highest at 4.7%. “Your community determines your positivity rate,” state Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in reference to the high numbers here.
