Teresa Pajonk Sohmer Teresa Pajonk Sohmer, 82, of Heritage Village, Gerry, N.Y., formerly of Lincoln Street in Jamestown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021. Teresa was born in Clearfield, Pa,. on March 20, 1938. She was the daughter of Joseph Pajonk and Mary Vitko Pajonk. The family moved from Clearfield to Curwensville, Pa., when Teresa was a young girl. Teresa was a 1956 graduate of the Curwensville Joint School System. Immediately after her graduation, she was employed by the school system as a secretary in the high school office. She then served as the secretary to the elementary school principal and later as secretary to the high school principal.

Andrew Cuomo is good news for the Jamestown Public Schools District. On Tuesday, Cuomo proposed two state budgets one which uses $6 billion in aid from the federal government and one with $15 billion aid from the federal government. From a practical standpoint, Cuomo’s proposed budget only assumes the $6 billion in federal aid. In order to cover the rest of the $9 billion state budget shortfall, Cuomo said New York will need to borrow, raise taxes and slash state spending for local governments and social services. He said New York would spend $600 million less on Medicaid and continue $900 million in 5% across-the-board spending reductions.

County 4-H celebrates youth achievement at awards night | News, Sports, Jobs

Abigail and Owen Carlberg were recognized for their 4-H achievements at 4-H Awards Night. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H Youth Development Program celebrated a unique 4-H year at its annual Awards Night held recently at the Falcon’s Nest in Falconer. Despite the challenges 4-H youth and volunteers faced by the coronavirus pandemic, Chautauqua County 4-H youth were still able to complete projects like community service and many animal projects. Youth were recognized for their efforts at the annual Awards Night Ceremony. Awards Night usually takes place in November and is planned by the Teen Ambassador youth leadership group. Families bring a dish to share, enjoy games, and celebrate the 4-H year with their fellow 4-Hers. This year’s event was a “walk through” style, modified to accommodate social distancing best practices. Submitted photo With assistance from a local architectural firm, a building to display the restored Jamestown Street Railway Trolley Car No. 93 is in the works. Bob Johnston, Jamestown Street Railway Trolley Car No. 93 restoration project founder, told The Post-Journal that CPL (Clark Paterson Lee) is in the process of creating architectural drawings of what the display building might look like for the restored trolley car. He receive an initial drawing from the architectural firm last year and provided feedback. Last week, Johnston received a new rendering from CPL.

P-J file photo LAKEWOOD The Lakewood-Busti Police Department will have a new leader. The Lakewood Village Board accepted the resignation of Lakewood-Busti Police Chief John R. Bentley, who will be retiring after 45 years in law enforcement, during its annual organizational meeting Monday night. “It is with great sadness for the Busti-Lakewood area, but great joy for the Bentley family, that I make the motion to accept the resignation of Lakewood-Busti Police Chief John R. Bentley,” Village Mayor Randall Holcomb said during Monday’s meeting.
