Readers’ festive plans in tatters thanks to new Covid Christmas rules Christmas plans are in tatters for hundreds of people across north Essex after the Government U-turned on arrangements due to rising infection rates. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the Christmas relaxation of Covid rules will be limited to Christmas Day only rather than the previously announced five days. This means that up to three households can meet indoors, but only on December 25. Coupled with the new Tier 4 restrictions in much of Essex meaning people cannot mix no matter what, even on Christmas Day, and cannot leave the area - means many people have had their festive plans thrown into disarray.
