May 12, 2021 Christian, James Anthony Christian, 46 of Bryans Road UPDATE 5/11/2021: Tony Covington, State’s Attorney for Charles County, announced that on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, James Anthony Christian, 46 of Bryans Road, entered a guilty plea to Motor Vehicle Manslaughter and 4 counts of Second-Degree Assault. On October 14, 2018, troopers from the Maryland State Police responded to Maryland Route 6, west of Burch Road in Port Tobacco for the report of a two-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, troopers observed a Maroon 2015 Nissan Rogue with severe front-end damage on the westbound shoulder of Route 6 and a Black 2014 Chevrolet Cruze with severe rear end damage in a private driveway. Deputies from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Waldorf Fire and Rescue Squad were already on scene.

May 12, 2021 On May 10, 2021, at 3:53 p.m., officers from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6200 block of Seal Place in Waldorf for the report of an armed carjacking. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim. Initial investigation revealed the victim met the suspect on a dating website, and they arranged to meet in the area of Seal Place. When the victim pulled into the parking area, an unknown male walked up to the driver’s side door and brandished a black handgun. He ordered the victim to get out of the vehicle at gunpoint. Once the victim got out, the suspect got into the victim’s vehicle and fled the area. The vehicle is a 2008 Honda Civic 4-door sedan, tan in color, bearing Maryland registration 8BX5170.

May 11, 2021 Officers Respond to Call for Man with Gun: On May 10, 2021, at 11:42 a.m., officers from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 11900 block of Acton Lane in Waldorf for the report of a subject “practice drawing” a firearm just outside of a store. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, Dorvay Dante Bell, 41, of Waldorf, in the parking lot and immediately gave verbal commands. The officers were able to de-escalate the situation and the suspect complied. He was taken into custody without incident. Investigation revealed that the firearm concealed in his waistband was a BB gun replica of a 9mm handgun. Additionally, Bell and his female acquaintance, Cheryl Lynn Spiegel, 49, of Waldorf, were found to be trespassing at the business after being banned.

May 7, 2021 UPDATE 5/7/2021: Tony Covington, State’s Attorney for Charles County, announced that on Thursday, May 6, 2021, a Charles County jury, after a 9-day trial and less than a day of deliberation, convicted Darryl Edward Freeman, 18, of the First-Degree Felony Murder and Armed Robbery of Bradley Brown, as well as related charges. On February 18, 2020, officers responded to the 3100 block of Warehouse Landing Road in Bryans Road for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found one victim, Bradley Brown, with gunshot wounds to his chest and leg. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
