AWENDAW, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County School District wants to turn a large plot of land between Awendaw and McClellanville into the next site for the areaâs middle and high schools.
The complex, planned along N. Highway 17 and Jenkins Hill Rd., would be the first high school in the area in seven years since Lincoln High school in McClellanville closed.
âIn my opinion, every community needs to have a school,â CCSD District 1 School Board Member Shirley Collenton said. âSince we no longer have the high school in the area, itâs really a ghost town because we no longer have a place with activities where the community can come together.â

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - About 20 parents gathered outside of the Charleston County School District office on Monday ahead of the board meeting. Parents called for masks to be optional, not required, for the remainder of the school year.
CCSD parent Jessica Zeigler called on the board to change the mask requirement today.
And, the school district isn’t the only one she was asking for answers from.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - With the end of the school year a little over a month away, students and families are reminded that itâs now a federal requirement for all virtual students to take state-mandated testing in person.
This includes End-Of-Course exams, SC READY, and SC PASS tests.
Dorchester District Two says when parents signed their virtual learning contracts they agreed their students would come in-person to take these state mandated tests.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Officials with the Department of Health and Environmental Control have confirmed a case of tuberculosis at a middle school in the Charleston County School District.
The affected person is someone associated with C.E. Williams Middle School (South campus). That person is in isolation and remains so until DHEC has established they can no longer spread TB, according to state health officials.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County School District says they will announce the Top 5 finalists for the 2021 CCSD Teacher of the Year.
The Teacher of the Year award is a way to honor the impact teachers make in the lives of students.
School officials say they will honor the finalist throughout the course of the day on the districtâs social media platforms and theyâll be going to schools around the district to surprise those Top 5 teachers.
