Estate blames Hardee s for ADA violations after man dies following fall outside restaurant

CHARLESTON – The estate of a South Charleston man blames his death on a Hardee’s restaurant for being grossly noncompliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Helen Roberta Vincent White, as executrix of the estate of Joseph Franklin White, filed her complaint February 9 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Cap Niki LLC, River Valley Restaurants LLC, Capstone Restaurant Group LLC and Hardee’s Restaurants LLC. According to the complaint, Joseph White slipped and fell in the parking lot of the Hardee’s on Bigley Avenue in Charleston during a visit March 1, 2019, that led to his eventual death. diTrapano Joseph White, 77, visited the restaurant to have a meal with friends. He had diabetes, and he had a valid handicap parking placard. He parked in one of the available handicap parking spaces.

Woman says Charleston surgeon injured her during surgery

CHARLESTON A Belva woman is suing a Charleston physician for causing her injuries while performing surgery. Mandi R. Peck saw Dr. Hatem M. Hossino for gallstones and he advised her to have a laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which he performed on Jan. 24, 2019, at Charleston Area Medical Center, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court. Peck claims he negligent transected the bile duct in the hilum of the liver while performing the surgery and caused a separation of both the right and left ducts. The plaintiff was later admitted back to Charleston Area Medical Center and it was discovered she had a bile leak. She was later transferred to Allegheny General Hospital, where another surgeon performed an operative repair of her bile duct injury, according to the suit.

Covid-19 vaccination clinics set for all 55 counties; Fayette clinic Friday

From Staff Reports Feb 4, 2021 On Feb. 1, Gov. Jim Justice, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, and the West Virginia Joint Interagency Task Force for Covid-19 Vaccines announced that Covid-19 vaccine clinics will be held through Feb. 6 in all 55 counties throughout the state under the umbrella of Operation Save Our Wisdom. This week s clinics are available for West Virginians who are 65 years of age and older. Residents from any county in West Virginia may access an appointment at any of the vaccination clinics, regardless of their county of residence, provided that spots are available. Many clinics are listed as full, and they are utilizing existing waitlists.

Tennessee man involved in Charleston hospital shooting gets federal prison time By January 28, 2021 - 3:47 pm CHARLESTON, W.Va. A Tennessee man who tried to kill a Charleston police officer in a hospital stairwell in 2018 was sentenced Thursday to more than 17 years in federal prison. Bryan Ogle Bryan Ogle, 33, of Sevierville, Tennessee, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin after a previous guilty to the federal charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Ogle pleaded guilty last year to four criminal counts in state court including attempted first degree murder. He was sentenced to up to 30 years in state prison.

June Leffler, an award-winning public radio reporter, has joined the West Virginia Public Broadcasting news team as our new Appalachia Health News reporter, telling the story of our region’s health challenges and how we are working to overcome them. Leffler, a Kentucky native, comes to WVPB from rural Alaska where she spent the last three years as a public radio reporter. She ran a one-woman newsroom at KSTK in Wrangell, Alaska, while also contributing to Alaska Public Media and stations throughout Southeast Alaska. Leffler has won excellence-in-journalism awards from the Alaska Broadcasting Association and the Alaska Press Club.
