As Major League Baseball moves its All-Star Game from Atlanta in protest of Georgia s controversial new voting law, current and former Charlotte politicians say the current blowback reminds them of the fallout after the passage of North Carolina House Bill 2, known as HB2 or the Bathroom Bill.   Signed into law in 2016 by former Gov. Pat McCrory (R), HB2 required transgender people to use restrooms in public places based on the gender in their birth certificate and not by the gender they identified with.

Dilworth is the third Red@28th location, and its largest. Other locations are in Greenville, South Carolina, and Charlotte’s University City area, the latter of which is under renovation. Owner Darren “Jaz” Vincent says customers at the Dilworth location can expect the same vintage vibes, from the retro furniture to arcade games. He also significantly expanded Red’s signature book displays to include thousands of titles.

A homicide investigation is underway in Charlotte s University City, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Police say two people have died. It happened Wednesday night in the 9900 block of Brickleberry Lane, which is near several apartment complexes and under three miles from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Police at the scene told WCNC Charlotte they responded to the address after getting asked to conduct a welfare check at an apartment. When they arrived, officers found two adults who had been shot. Both died at the scene.
