One person killed after southeast Charlotte shooting WCNC Staff

One person was killed in a shooting in southeast Charlotte Tuesday night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
According to CMPD, officers responded to a shooting in the 1100 block of McAlway Drive near the Value-Mart just after 10 p.m. When officers got to the area, they found a man who had been shot. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Laquintin Marquis McManus, was taken to a Charlotte hospital by Medic where he was pronounced dead.
So far, CMPD has not released any suspect information or announced any arrests in connection with the shooting.

Hospitalizations hit record high
At least 494,511 people in North Carolina have tested positive for the coronavirus and 6,360 have died, according to state health officials.
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday reported 5,609 new COVID-19 cases, up from 5,255 the day before.
On Wednesday, 69 newly reported coronavirus-related deaths added to North Carolina s deadliest month during the pandemic.
At least 3,043 people in North Carolina were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Wednesday the highest single-day total reported since the start of the pandemic. At the beginning of the month, the state reported 2,033 coronavirus-related hospitalizations.

Fresh sexual assault claims against a Former Catholic priest Robert Yurgel have surfaced yet again. Yurgel, who served a prison sentence in 2009 for abusing an altar boy at St. Matthew in the late 1990s, has been accused of assaulting another man inside Ballantyne Church when he was as young as 5. Prior to this, Yurgel served nearly eight years in prison for abusing altar boy Robby Price in 1999.
“It was all on the grounds on the church,” said Nate Foote, attorney for the victim, who is now in his late 20s. “Yurgel convinced our client the sexual abuse was part of a confession ritual,” added the attorney.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - As positive coronavirus cases continue to surge across Mecklenburg County, health leaders are urging everyone to avoid large gatherings during the holiday.
The plea comes days after four Charlotte businesses were cited by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for violating Governor Roy Cooper’s executive order.
Those businesses include: Clutch Kitchen and Pour House, Bulldog Taproom, Skilled Arcade and Fish Table Computer Games.

A fire engine rolled over in north Charlotte Sunday morning, injuring three firefighters on their way to an alarm.
The wreck involving Charlotte Fire Department s Engine 28 happened around 4:30 a.m. on Sunset Road just east of Interstate 77.
The fire department said in a press release that the engine was headed to a residential fire alarm. Four firefighters were on board. Three were taken to the hospital where they were treated and released.
Charlotte Fire Department said the firefighters injuries were not serious.
The fire department didn t say what caused the crash. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department s crash unit is investigating.
