Steven Valenti Republican-American THOMASTON – Amanda McDonald got her first COVID-19 shot Wednesday during a vaccination clinic for 100 people at St. Peter’s Trinity Church on Main Street. The vaccine was produced by Moderna. McDonald said she would not have gotten the shot if it had come from Johnson & Johnson because she didn’t trust that company, even before the Federal Drug Administration recommended this week that medical facilities pause using Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine until it further studies the potential link with blood clots.

Woman cited by state police after single car crash in Colebrook

April 15, 2021 168 COLEBROOK- A local woman was cited by state police for failing to maintain a proper lane along Route 183 Wednesday night after she lost control and struck 70 feet of guardrail and a utility pole. Amy Koch, 48, suffered minor injuries after her Subaru Forester ended up on its side near Phelps Flat Road about two miles from the Massachusetts state line just after 6 p.m.. Koch, of 122 Cobb City Road, told police a gnat flew into her eye and caused her to lose control of the vehicle. She complained of neck pain and was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital by Norfolk ambulance for evaluation.

Hearts for Heroes raises $900

March 9, 2021 146 Harwinton Consolidated School’s student council had a successful  Hearts for Healthcare Heroes community service project. During a weeklong fundraising drive, they collected $900 in donations from students and staff. Due to the generosity of HCS and the additional donations from Litchfield and Harwinton Dunkin’ Donuts locations, 300 DD gift cards were delivered to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. Student council members along with their advisors, Alexa Mattiello and Morgan Thulin, presented CHH staff members with the donations and heart shaped thank you notes. Miss Mattiello stated, “The kids got to see first hand just how much of an impact their work has on others.”
