IOWA, 24 MAY 2021 (SMH) Australia’s Olympic skateboarding preparations are in disarray after three members of the Australian team, including a 13-year-old skater, tested positive to COVID-19 after travelling to the U.S for a qualifying event.
Two athletes are now out of the running of the Olympics due to the COVID-19 cases, along with one coach who also tested positive at the qualifying event.
The group of 11 Australian skaters, as well as staff, flew out from Sydney on May 3 to California before travelling to the Dew Tour in Iowa in an effort to qualify for the Olympics.

Two Australian skateboarders are “devastated” after their hopes of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics were ruined by testing positive for Covid-19 in the United States.
A group of Australian skaters flew out earlier this month for an Olympic qualifying event in Iowa, with some needing to bank competition points to secure a spot at the Games.
MELBOURNE (Reuters) -A team of Australian skateboarders was disqualified from an Olympic qualifying event in the United States after three positive COVID-19 tests in their group. Two skateboarders, including 13-year-old Charlotte Heath, and a coach tested positive in the United States, and others in the group were ruled out of the qualifier in Des Moines, Iowa, because they were deemed close contacts of the coach. "My understanding is the 13-year-old is very well supported by her sport and also . by her parents or a parent over there," Australia's Olympic Chef de Mission Ian Chesterman told reporters on the Gold Coast on Monday.
