Following the violent clash between the factions of the Ondo State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers on Tuesday morning, the state government has announced the indefinite suspension of all activities of the union across the state.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale, also ordered the NURTW members to immediately vacate all motor parks across the state.
The government described the clash as unruly and uncultured behaviour of the union leaders which resulted in violent attacks on members and innocent citizens.

In worsening economic times, it’s little wonder that so many car owners in the country baulk at the cost of a set of new tyres for their vehicles. With a minimum wage of N30,000, which has yet to be implemented in many states; an inflation rate of 16.47 per cent, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria; and a forecasted unemployment rate of 31.4 per cent in 2021, according to Statista, it is no news that the purchasing power of a lot of Nigerians has diminished over the years.
The result: many car owners who previously used to afford new tyres for their vehicles no longer have the wherewithal to afford them, due to the increasing cost of living. The alternative solution, apparently, is to buy tyres that have already been used by someone else (mostly in foreign lands). Clearly, this has led to a boom for the used tyres dealers – but a safety concern for experts.

Some commercial bus drivers along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Saturday stayed off the road, alleging extortion and constant manhandling by touts, popularly known as agberos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no commercial buses were seen plying the roads, while passengers were stranded at various bus stops.
Meanwhile, commercial motorcycles are having a field day conveying passengers at rather high costs.
The commercial bus drivers had embarked on a “
cease commuter operation” along the Lagos-Badagry axis up to the Mile 2 area of the state, following what they termed an unbearable increment in their ticket fees.

Commuters were on Saturday stranded along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway as drivers of commercial bus popularly known as ‘Danfo’ protested alleged extortion and constant manhandling by louts.
No commercial shuttle was seen plying the roads while several commuters were spotted trekking.
Only commercial motorcycles were seen having a field day bargaining and conveying passengers on an agreed payment condition.
