Minister Fikile Mbalula releases preliminary festive season fatalities statistics

PRETORIA: The Minister of Transport, Mr. Fikile Mbalula, Limpopo Transport and Community Safety Member of the Executive Council (MEC), Ms. Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, and the Road Traffic Management Cooperation (RTMC ) Chief Operations Officer (CEO), Advocate. Makhosini Msibi will tomorrow, Tuesday, release the 2020 Festive Season Preliminary Road Statistics. At the launch of the Festive Season Road Safety Campaign in Polokwane, the Minister announced that this year’s road safety target is 20% from the 2019 10% which was achieved. The Minister, MECs responsible for road safety and the RTMC CEO led road safety operations throughout the country encouraging responsible driver behavior. The Minister, MECs, and CEO continue to lead intensified awareness campaigns and law enforcement operations.

Unroadworthy vehicles flagged

───   KATLEHO MORAPELA 15:20 Thu, 17 Dec 2020 The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) warns that traffic law enforcement officers will be intensifying their campaign to remove unsafe vehicles from the roads ahead of the peak festive season travel. Spokesperson, Simon Zwane, says more than 1 800 vehicles countrywide have been removed from the roads after it was discovered that they were being operated on public roads while they had major defects that placed the lives of other road users at risk.  Zwane says over 1 400 public transport vehicles have also been impounded for operating without permits and overloading of passengers. Zwane says no stone will be left unturned in efforts to ensure road safety this festive season.
