Alert members of the national traffic police thwarted the hijacking and robbery of a truck in Tshwane, says the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).
The traffic officers were on duty on the N1, R21 and N4 freeways on Monday when they spotted a white truck suspected of being overloaded, said spokesperson Simon Zwane.

Five former employees of the uMngeni licensing office in Howick, near Pietermaritzburg, will have to wait until next month to know the consequences of their corruption and fraud.
Their case was postponed in the specialised commercial crimes court on Wednesday because of the unavailability of social workers reports on some of the convicted officials.
The case returns to court on March 2.
Dumisani Nkala, Lindiwe Xulu, Meshack Ndlovu, Nkosinathi Zondi and Dumisani Phungula were found to have helped scores of motor vehicle learner’s licence applicants to pass their tests.

As of Tuesday, 26 January 2021, the cumulative number of detected Covid-19 cases is 1,423,578 with 6,041 new cases identified, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has confirmed.
680 more Covid-19 related deaths were reported. This brings the total number of Covid-19 related deaths to 41,797.
Recoveries now stand at 1,254,674 representing a recovery rate of 88%.

Almost one million vehicles in South Africa will have to be recalled for inspection as a “precautionary measure” because of faulty airbags that could harm or kill vehicle occupants.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) sent out the following communication to the public via SMS:
“Your vehicle has been identified as being part of a safety recall campaign. You will be contacted by the manufacturer who will provide you with an appointment to visit their service centre. Please ensure that you engage in this critical safety matter as directed.”
