(WTVM) - In a year where the nation is seeing it’s first-ever woman vice president, Columbus is also making history with Marie Harrell’s promotion Wednesday to deputy fire chief. “It is 180 years plus in history for this department, for it to take until 2021 to name a female deputy chief is amazing in itself,” Harrell said. Harrell’s new title makes history for the Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services department not only because she is the first woman in Columbus to ever hold the title, but also because this signifies the city’s dedication to include minorities in leadership positions.
