Parents warned of teens using dangerous vaping pens

Copyright © 2021 Roswell Daily Record The Roswell Police Department wants to make parents aware of a prevalence of local teenagers using illegal vaping products that pose a danger to the teens using them, according to a press release issued by RPD. Various disposal vaping pens contain THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana. When used in vaping pens, the THC is concentrated and its mind-altering effects and physical impacts are much stronger than those that occur when THC is ingested through marijuana. This creates a much greater risk of a user suffering an overdose. The recreational use of these THC-containing vaping pens is legal in some states, but not New Mexico. These products often make their way to Roswell and other parts of New Mexico by people purchasing the vaping pens in bulk in states where they can be legally obtained and then returning to New Mexico to illegally sell them individually at an increased price than what they paid, according to the press relea

Austin Medford (Submitted Photo) The U.S. Marshals Eastern District of California branch, with assistance from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol, located and arrested Austin Cyrus Medford, 23, at his parents’ home in Riverdale, California Wednesday without incident, said Juan Miranda, public information officer for the U.S. Marshals Service branch in southern New Mexico. Miranda said the apprehension of Medford was a collaborative effort between the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, the Roswell Police Department, the Chaves County Metro Narcotics Task Force and U.S. Marshals office in Roswell. He said information was found and developed by law enforcement in New Mexico and shared with U.S. Marshals in California.
