During an investigation, Saskatoon Police observed activity consistent with drug trafficking and at about 4:05 p.m. on Feb. 10, they conducted a high-risk vehicle stop on a taxi near 25 Street East and 2nd Avenue North in Saskatoon. Chakita was arrested from the cab without incident. On him police found a firearm, 33 grams of cocaine, 226 grams of cannabis, bear spray and more than $600 cash. He was charged with eight firearms-related offences, trafficking cocaine and cannabis, possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of release conditions. With concurrent sentences on the charges he will serve 18 months in prison.
Police obtained search warrants for Betthel’s residence on the 100 block of Hara Avenue in Bjorkdale where they seized firearms, methamphetamine, ketamine, hydromorphone, and additional drug paraphernalia.
