The sounds of power tools and hammering filled the air outside the Penumbra Kelly Building on Tuesday afternoon as workers repaired damage from a protest that was declared a riot the night before.
About 200 people, most dressed in black clothing, gathered in Portland’s Laurelhurst Park on Monday evening for a vigil in honor of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man who was fatally shot by a Minnesota police officer during a weekend traffic stop. After the vigil, the crowd marched to the Penumbra Kelly Building, which houses some Portland police and Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office operations.
