LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) Six Mayo Clinic hospitals including Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse scored high marks for safety, earning an “A” grade for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national nonprofit organization run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.
“Our staff’s exceptional dedication and commitment to our patients, especially safety and quality, has been truly remarkable,” says Paul Mueller, M.D., Mayo Clinic Health System regional vice president southwest Wisconsin region. “These safety grades reflect our staff’s dedication and commitment to our primary value, ‘The needs of the patient come first,’ and are particularly notable in light of the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic during the past year.”

DRIFTLESS - Over the past week COVID-19, diagnoses statewide increased from 487,938 on Monday, Jan. 4 to 508,346 on Monday, Jan. 11. That is a statewide increase of 20,408 cases. The number of deaths increased from 4,884 to 5,162, an additional 278 deaths, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announced today that Police and Fire personnel will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine beginning January 18, 2021 which begins the first step into phase 1B for Wisconsin. Wisconsin has been vaccinating the 1A population since December 14, 2020 which includes frontline health care workers and residents of long term care facilities including nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Coulee COVID collaborative ties 105 cases to holiday gatherings

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) The Coulee COVID-19 Collaborative attributed the origin of 105 cases this week to people who attended a holiday gathering where they either were exposed to COVID-19 or where they exposed others.
“Additionally, there were four churches with multiple cases who attended in-person church services while infectious,” according to the collaborative’s summary released Wednesday.
These numbers are early and may increase as investigations are completed and more cases analyzed, the summary said.
The overall positive ratio has increased to 32.9%, meaning that nearly one in three people tested for COVID-19 test positive.
