Cheshire: Man sentenced at Chester Crown Court for causing death by careless driving

A MAN who was convicted of causing death by careless driving following a fatal collision in Cheshire has now been sentenced. Gordon Hyland, of Bexton Lane, Knutsford was found guilty of the charge following a four day trial at Chester Crown Court which concluded on Monday, December 7. The 50-year-old has reappeared at Chester Crown Court on Friday, January 8, 2021, where he was handed a n 18 month community order and 150 hours unpaid work. Hyland was also banned from driving for 12 months and will be required to undertake an extended retest. The conviction relates to a collision which occurred on Thursday, March 28, 2019, on the A50 Manchester Road.

Cheshire: Woman is sentenced after admitting causing death by careless driving

A WOMAN who admitted causing a collision in Cheshire that resulted in the death of a close friend has been sentenced. Maire Gibson appeared at Crewe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, December 23, where she was banned from driving for 12 months, she will also need to retake her driving test before she can drive again. The 80-year-old, of Wrexham Road in Bukelely, had earlier pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving. She was also fined £1,600 and ordered to pay £160 victims surcharge and £85 costs. The charge related to a collision which occurred at about 2:50pm on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. Mrs Gibson and her 80-year-old friend Beryl Moss were travelling along Long Lane in Burland, near Nantwich.
