Fuel cells critical to net-zero emission shipping: Shell s Henderson | Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide

Fuel cells critical to net-zero emission shipping: Shell’s Henderson Fuel cells will be a key instrument in decarbonizing the shipping sector, a Shell official said April 22 at an industry event. Grahaeme Henderson, the global head of shipping and maritime at Shell, also reiterated the oil and gas company’s support for LNG as a fuel to meet medium-term climate goals and hydrogen to meet longer-term goals at the Singapore Maritime Technology Conference. Henderson’s speech followed a recent report by the World Bank stating that LNG will likely have a “limited role” in the decarbonization of the shipping sector and that countries should avoid new public policies that support LNG as a bunker fuel and reconsider existing support.

Singapore s maritime tech startups get a boost

To support Singapore’s ambition to be “the top maritime startup hub in the world”, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has set aside $10 million from the Maritime Innovation and Technology (MINT) Fund to support the growth and development of maritime technology startups in Singapore.  Under this expanded effort, MPA will also develop a digital technology marketplace and a startup playbook. The marketplace will connect maritime and venture capital companies with startups and facilitate discovery of solutions. The startup playbook serves as a comprehensive guide for startups to springboard into Singapore tapping on schemes and support programmes relating to talent, capital and R&D resources, according to MPA.
