Arts festival Sifa reduces audience sizes for some opening weekend shows due to Covid-19 restrictions

The annual performing arts festival - back from May 14 to 30 - features more than 60 shows. Some of the live performances that were capped at 250 attendees will now have their audience numbers reduced to 100 per show. These include The Commission, a play by Pangdemonium, Singapore Repertory Theatre and Wild Rice, as well as the concerts A Song For Louis and Be Comforted Now: Bach Cantatas. Oldham Theatre, the venue for the Singular Screens film programme, will have its audience capacity reduced from 66 to 50. This will affect films such as The Mole Agent, Gunda and Satantango. These changes were announced on Thursday (May 13) in a media release on Sifa s website.

A THOUSAND WAYS (PART TWO): AN ENCOUNTER to Have New York Premiere Live at The Public Theater

The Public Theater announced today the New York premiere of A THOUSAND WAYS (PART TWO): AN ENCOUNTER, inviting audiences to take part-in-person-in the continuation of this acclaimed work from 600 HIGHWAYMEN (Abigail Browde and Michael Silverstone). While the first part engaged two remote participants-often thousands of miles apart-in an automated hour-long phone call, PART TWO: AN ENCOUNTER brings together new pairs of strangers to share physical space in the creation of a private piece of theater. Seated in an empty room, at opposite ends of a table, and separated by a pane of plexiglass, participants follow prompts on a set of notecards, venturing together into cinematically vivid bouts of imagination. The experience invites us to reconsider, in real time, what we think we know about a person-including ourselves-at a moment when virtual interactions have flattened our co-existences. A THOUSAND WAYS (PART TWO): AN ENCOUNTER will take place in several locations at The Public Theater,

Arts groups in Singapore rush to reconfigure concerts, live shows before new Covid-19 rules kick in

SINGAPORE - Arts groups and concert promoters are scrambling to adapt live performances after the authorities announced new restrictions on Tuesday (May 4) to curb a spike in Covid-19 cases. From Saturday to May 30, the maximum number of people allowed at live performances will be reduced from 750 to 250 attendees - or just 100, if there is no pre-event testing. Social gatherings will be capped at five people, down from eight. The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) has introduced additional show times for two of its concerts to avoid pre-event testing. The orchestra s executive director Terence Ho said they had already begun making contingency plans after hearing about the new Covid-19 clusters.

Return of concerts, festivals set the stage for Singapore s entertainment renaissance

/ Posted on 29 April, 2021 17:47 Festivals, performances and concerts are returning with a vengeance as Singapore relaxes public event restrictions, poising the country as a high-potential destination for entertainment-driven, post-Covid travel. This follows the successful month-long pilot in September last year, which saw the return of live performances at selected venues for a maximum of 50 spectators. As of April 24, 2021, this number has increased to 750 with pre-event testing and 250 without pre-event testing, and zoning will no longer be required as long as safe management measures are in place.
