Singapore and Hong Kong delay travel bubble
The long- awaited travel bubble between
Hong Kong and
Singapore has been delayed.
The two countries were scheduled to begin allowing quarantine-free travel from 26 May with the launch of a travel corridor which was first proposed in November last year.
But a recent rise in the number of cases in Singapore means the required circumstances for starting the bubble are no longer being met.
A
Singapore Transport Ministry spokesperson said: “In light of the recent increase in unlinked community cases, Singapore is unable to meet the criteria to start.”
The news comes days after Changi Airport announced a temporary closure of its facilities to the public following eight confirmed cases at the airport.

Singapore to Delay Hong Kong Travel Bubble Yet Again Amid Rising Covid-19 Cases
(The Straits Times) The air travel bubble to allow for quarantine-free travel between Singapore and Hong Kong is likely to be delayed yet again, given the rising number of Covid-19 community cases in Singapore.
Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung on Friday said: It is very likely that Singapore will not be able to meet the resumption criteria. What we will do now is to closely monitor the numbers the next few days to review the start date, and early next week, we will make a decision and an announcement.
