C4 calls for probe into allegations involving 1MDB linking former Bank Negara governor Zeti

PETALING JAYA: The Centre to Combat Corruption & Cronyism (C4) has called for an investigation into allegations that more than US$16mil (about RM65mil) linked to 1MDB was found in company accounts belonging to the husband of Bank Negara s former governor Tan Sri Zeti Akthtar Aziz ( pic). The C4 said that Bank Negara s integrity could be compromised if there was any truth to the allegations which could further weaken the people s trust in local institutions and authority. The C4 calls for immediate answers and further investigation into the matter and for the parties involved to come clean. Accountability must be the cornerstone of every administration and such discoveries make it difficult for the people to overcome the trust deficit toward the administration and institution, it said in a statement on Tuesday (March 2).

Attorney Bobbi Sternheim wrote in a letter to a Manhattan federal judge that the abuse occurred recently at the Metropolitan Detention Center as Ghislaine Maxwell was undergoing a pat down search in her isolation cell. The lawyer said the British socialite asked that a camera be used to capture what was occurring, but a guard replied no. When Ms. Maxwell recoiled in pain and when she said she would report the mistreatment, she was threatened with disciplinary action, Sternheim said.

PARIS: French prosecutors said Saturday they had charged and imprisoned a former close associate of disgraced American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, the prominent French modelling agent Jean-Luc Brunel, over alleged sex crimes. Brunel was charged with rape of minors over the age of 15 and sexual harassment, said a statement from the prosecutors office. He was initially detained on Wednesday at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport as he was about to board a flight to Senegal. Epstein, who was arrested in New York in July 2019 on charges of trafficking underage girls for sex, was found hanged in his New York jail cell the following month while awaiting trial over abuses involving girls at his Palm Beach home and on his private island in the Caribbean.
