A Maryland woman accused of setting her house on fire watched it burn from a chair on the front lawn as another resident screamed for help inside the home, according to fire officials and a video purported to show the wild scene.
Witnesses told officials that a woman, later identified as 47-year-old Gail J. Metwally, set multiple fires in the home before sitting in a chair on the front lawn and watching the flames engulf her house. Video purported to show the chaotic scene was posted on social media showing a woman appearing to read a book while the house bursts into flames. I cannot actually believe it, a witness who recorded the video can be heard saying. And she’s sitting there just chillin’ watching the house go up in flames! Oh my God!
NORTH EAST — Investigators have arrested two people and charged them with attempted murder, arson and other offenses in connection with an intentionally-set fire that destroyed an unoccupied mobile home
ELKTON â A woman allegedly torched her home near Elkton on Thursday afternoon, gutting the house and displacing herself and three other adults who lived there, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.
No one was injured in the swiftly-spreading blaze â but one of the occupants made a narrow escape from the burning house, with the help of a man who was performing gutter work on a house diagonally across the street in the unit block of Cherry Lane, a short distance off Fletchwood, northeast of Elkton, fire officials reported.
A responding Cecil County Sheriffâs Office deputy spotted the woman who allegedly set the fire, as she was walking on the street a short distance away from the burning house, and detained her, fire officials said. As of late Thursday afternoon, fire officials added, MOSFM detectives were interviewing that woman at the Maryland State Police North East Barrack.
