Published March 16, 2021 5:28pm Senior citizens as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women can get vaccinated against COVID-19 after getting clearance from their doctors and giving their informed consent, two experts said Tuesday. Dr. Shelley de la Vega of the National Institutes of Health and Dr. Sybil Bravo of the Philippine Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology stressed that senior citizens and pregnant women are at higher risk for severe COVID-19. De la Vega said this was why the elderly are the “best candidates” for COVID-19 vaccination. She said elderly people with hypertension, diabetes, heart or kidney disease, and those undergoing dialysis need not get a doctor’s clearance prior to getting vaccinated.
