SIBU: A densely populated Zone 7, comprising Jalan Tiong Hua and its surroundings, here and Zone 15 (Sentosa) may come under an enhanced movement control order, following a spike in cases on Wednesday (Feb 24).
Zone 7, which is one of 34 zones, recorded 19 more cases, bringing the total to 171 so far while Zone 15 also saw an uptick with 19 new cases recorded Wednesday, bringing the total to 112 cases.
Assistant Housing and Local Government Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said, in a Facebook livestream Wednesday, that the Sibu Disaster Management Committee will propose an enhanced MCO in Zone 7 to the state disaster management committee. We are proposing a lockdown and will announce any decision tomorrow. Tonight, I will have a meeting with the Sibu Resident Charles Siaw, he said.
SIBU: The issuance of police permits for workers of companies listed under the essential service sectors to commute to work has drawn flak from many quarters.
This follows the police saying that strict enforcement will be conducted from Jan 27 to nab those travelling but without a permit.

SIBU: Following the implementation of the movement control order here, the Covid-19 screening centre in Sibu Indoor Stadium will be closed from Jan 16.
Eight longhouses in Pasai Siong here have been placed under lockdown for at least 14 days until further notice starting yesterday after 37 Covid-19 cases were detected in one of the longhouses a day before.
