Chippenham Museum are opening late this Thursday (July 5) leading to a great chance to experience history from across the years. Many have spent the last few weeks enjoying nights out and evening pub outings since covid restrictions eased. In Devizes, the Exchange Nightclub is not opening until August 20. Meanwhile, in Chippenham, E11evn’s Nightclub has been open from 11pm each weekend since they were given the green light. But many in the town will still remember queues of a different kind, when there was Goldiggers nightclub on Timber Street. 2021 marks 40 years since the club opened, back in 1981, in the former Gaumont Cinema building. It became the premier night club for the entire region.
Chippenham Museum Chippenham Museum is open until 7pm this Thursday (August 5) with free entry. People can enjoy exhibition Kilvert’s World and the museum’s permanent galleries telling the story of the town from its prehistoric origins to the current day. The exhibition features two of the three surviving diaries on loan from The National Library of Wales. Born in Chippenham in 1840, Kilvert became curate for his father in Langley Burrell. His diaries reflected rural life in the 1870s, and were published more than 50 years after his death. Visitors can enjoy late openings at the museum once a month, giving opportunity to visit after work or on your way to dinner.
