CLINTON TOWNSHIP/MACOMB TOWNSHIP Despite a rise in COVID-19 cases over the last couple of weeks in Macomb County, Chippewa Valley Schools Superintendent Ron Roberts said there’s hope the community is over the peak.
At the April 19 Chippewa Valley Schools Board of Education meeting, it was approved, in a 5-2 vote, to reconfirm the extended COVID-19 learning plan. Trustee Jolene Andriaschko and Secretary Beth Pyden voted no.
“If it stays true to how these numbers have played out in the past, hopefully we’re seeing signs of it coming down the back side of the peak,” Roberts said.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP/ROCHESTER Jack Andrews has taken full advantage of his collegiate experience, advancing his own career aspirations while also benefiting others.
Andrews, a Clinton Township native and Chippewa Valley High School graduate, was recently named Oakland University’s recipient of the 2021 Alfred G. Wilson Award. The honor is annually awarded to the university’s top male scholar.
The OU senior was nominated and required to fill out an application that included an essay and two references. Ultimately, he was selected by university staff, faculty and his peers to earn the honor and a $1,000 stipend.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP/MACOMB TOWNSHIP The Chippewa Valley Schools class of 2021 now has one fewer requirement to graduate.
At the March 29 Chippewa Valley Schools Board of Education meeting, it was unanimously approved to waive the Michigan Merit Examination, or MME, testing requirement for this year’s graduating class.

The data was collected on Thursday, March 4.
The biggest new outbreaks involves 24 students and staff at Portage Central High School and 20 students at Portage Central Elementary in Kalamazoo County.
The only new outbreak at a college is five infections at Ferris State University.
New K-12 school outbreaks also were identified in 20 counties. Below are those outbreaks listed by county:
Antrim County: Central Lake High School, staffer and student.
Bay County: Bay City Cohn Glen High School, staffer and student.
Berrien County: Berrien Springs High School, four students.

Congratulations to Ken and Karen Libby as they celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Feb. 5.
Ken and Karen met at Chippewa Valley High School and were married shortly after Ken joined the Air Force. Early in their marriage, they had the unique opportunity to see some of the world as they lived in Kansas, Arkansas, and Taiwan. After his service in the military, Ken and his bride moved back to their hometown to start a family. They raised three wonderful children, Crystalle, Kevin and Elise. Their family grew to include two caring sons-in-law Kirk and Mike, a loving daughter-in-law April, and six adoring grandchildren, Carter, Katie, Keegan, Colten, Rose and Walter.
