BARRIE, ONT. The Simcoe Muskoka health unit reports 44 COVID-19 cases Tuesday. Dr. Charles Gardner, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) medical officer of health, says the newly added cases could set a record this week. I think we re on track this week to having the highest number of cases we ve ever had, he said Tuesday afternoon. Since last week s update, Gardner said three Simcoe County residents have died with the virus. One is a woman in her 80s, and one is a man in his 80s, both passed away at Georgian Bay General Hospital, and one is a man between the ages of 45 and 64 who passed away at Toronto Western Hospital, he said.

Health unit reports three new COVID-19 cases

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting three new COVID-19 cases in the region. Updated data released Tuesday shows one of the cases is in Bracebridge and another is in Muskoka Lakes. There is one new active case of the virus bringing the current total of active cases to 17. There have been a total of 127 cases of the coronavirus in Muskoka since the pandemic began with 20 of them from Bracebridge and 30 from Muskoka Lakes. 107 people have recovered and two people have died. The SMDHU reported 44 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Tuesday. There have been 3,116 COVID-19 cases in the region since the start of the pandemic with 2,418 recovered and 60 deaths.

First person in Simcoe Muskoka set to get COVID-19 vaccine

SHARE ON: Photo credit: Pixabay Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) nurse Lori Black is set to be the first person in Simcoe Muskoka to get the COVID 19 vaccine. The vaccine will be administered at the temporary immunization clinic set-up by the Health Unit at the Royal Vicotria Regional Health Centre in Barrie.  SMDHU says the vaccine will not be readily available to the general public until 2021. The Health Unit estimates it will take six to nine months to vaccinate all Ontarians who opt-in for the shot. Black will be getting the vaccine at 10 AM on Tuesday. She works at the Victoria Village long-term care home. SMDHU says she in the first among the priority group to be immunized during the first phase of the vaccine roll-out.

188 new COVID-19 cases reported over the weekend in Simcoe Muskoka

  BARRIE, ONT. There was a spike in COVID-19 cases across Simcoe Muskoka over the weekend, with the health unit reporting 188 new infections, plus one new death. The region s virus-related death toll climbed to 60 Monday after a Simcoe County man, 45 to 64, died over the weekend.  Georgian Bay General Hospital also reported a virus-related death, not yet listed by the health unit. The death comes as the Midland hospital continues to grapple to contain a COVID-19 outbreak.  Some of the affected staff have now completed two weeks of isolation and returned to work. Along with the hospital, there are outbreaks at five seniors homes. The recent outbreaks at Waterford Retirement Community in Barrie and the Bradford Valley Care Community have since ended.
