Ledisi is now a Grammy winner!
The R&B jazz singer won her first Grammy Award during the 63rd annual Grammy Awards. She won the Best Traditional R&B Performance award for “Anything For You” from her 2020 album,
The Wild Card.
Four Louisiana Acts Took Home 2021 Grammy Awards
There were a total of 16 different Louisiana artists nominated for a total of 23 Grammy awards in genres like jazz, blues, Cajun, rap, country and gospel.
After the trophies were handed out last night, a total of four of those acts took home wins.
The New Orleans Nightcrawlers brass band won in the Best Regional Roots category for their 202 album
Atmosphere. It was their first Grammy Award. They beat out fellow New Orleans-based band Cameron Dupuy & the Cajun Troubadours along with Acadiana s Sweet Cecilia.

Seventeen Louisiana acts set to shine at Grammy Awards
Louisiana’s deep and diverse musical heritage will once again be on display Sunday night with the 63rd annual Grammy Awards presentation. A total of 17 Louisiana acts are nominated for 23 awards, representing musical genres from jazz and blues to Cajun, rap and gospel.
With pandemic precautions still in place, this year’s prime-time awards show from Los Angeles will be largely a virtual event. The show will be broadcast live from the Staples Center with no audience members in attendance, and most nominees will participate in the awards show via online connections. Queen Bey and Stallion won two Grammys with their collaborative remix of “Savage” Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.
They became the first pair of women to win in the Best Rap Performance category.
Stallion thanked her collaborator in her acceptance speech.
“I definitely want to say thank you to Beyoncé,” she said. “If you know me, you have to know that ever since I was little, I was like, ‘You know what, one day I’m going to grow up, I’m going to be like the rap Beyoncé.’ That was definitely my goal.”
