Pinson native honored during UA Community Engagement Awards Program

From The Tribune staff reports TUSCALOOSA The University of Alabama’s Council on Community-Based Partnerships bestowed honors upon more than a dozen people and community partners at its 15th annual Excellence in Community Engagement Awards. The event recognized outstanding engaged scholarship work combined with teaching, research and service in equitable partnerships with external community groups with the goal of creating sustained, positive change. “The annual awards recognition aims to bring deserved attention to the remarkable individual efforts that embody the endeavors of the Council on Community-Based Partnerships,” said Dr. Peter Hlebowitsh, dean of the College of Education and chair of the executive committee of the Council.

Architecture news & editorial desk Ros Moriarty and John Moriarty, founders of Indigenous design studio Balarinji, have been inducted into the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) Hall of Fame, for their contribution to enriching Australian graphic design, communication, and cultural activism. Founded in 1983, Balarinji has continually depicted the Indigenous narrative in a profound manner. Best known for the Balarinji-Qantas Flying Art Aircraft collection that has spanned three decades, the practice’s cultural design principles have transformed many major infrastructure projects nationally. AGDA Hall of Fame Committee member, Graham Rendoth, says the pair are deserving recipients of Hall of Fame status. “Through four decades John Moriarty and Ros Moriarty have built a ground-breaking practice that uniquely reflects their partnership, and which has enriched the experience of Australian graphic design and communication.”

EPA recognizes two Virginia water infrastructure projects for excellence and innovation Posted by Staff | Dec 16, 2020 | News | | PHILADELPHIA (December 14, 2020) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized two Virginia water infrastructure projects today for excellence and innovation within the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) programs. These exemplary projects demonstrate leadership in innovative financing, partnership and problem solving while improving water quality and public health protection. The Washington County Service Authority was recognized with an AQUARIUS award for Excellence in Community Engagement for work on the Rattle Creek Road Water Main Extension; and the Nature Conservancy was recognized with a PISCES award for Excellence in Environmental and Public Health Protection for work on the Clinch River Valley, Virginia, Land Conservation Project.
