Special Olympics torch run to pass through area tomorrow
Runners for Special Olympics Virginia will carry the touch through Woodbridge on Thursday, June 10 on its way to the games in Richmond.
About 9 a.m., runners will gather at a fire station at 15219 Holleyside Drive in Montclair, and from there run to the Gar-Field Eastern District police station at 15948 Donald Curtis Drive, via Cardinal Drive.
Prince William police tell us:
New this year: The runners will be transported from Gar-Field to PWC DFR Station 17, at Cardinal and Waterway drives. Runners will begin here and follow the route down Cardinal Drive to the entrance area of Gar-Field at Donald Curtis and Cardinal drives. Any Special Athletes who choose to run will start at this point and run to the fuel pumps area to complete the race. The route will not continue down Route 1 this year, so the total route is 3.6 miles.

NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk Sheriff Joe Baron was in for a surprise. Yes, he knew he was about to get cold and wet, but he didn t know his office had a few tricks up their sleeve - all in support of Special Olympics Virginia.
All the teams this year raising money had to get creative due to COVID-19 because due to social distancing concerns, there would be no Polar Plunge - no massive crowds running into the Atlantic at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
The 2021 Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Virginia was a success, with Team PWCPD raising more than $3,100 for the athletes of Special Olympics Virginia.
The Norfolk Sheriff's Office has raised more than $5,000, the leading law enforcement agency for Hampton Roads and the second highest across the state in support of Special Olympics!

PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - Normally, the Special Olympics Polar Plunge would bring thousands to Virginia Beach, braving the elements in support of a good cause. Thanks to coronavirus, the event can’t be held at the oceanfront this year, but many are doing their own versions of the plunge, including the Petersburg Bureau of Police.
Thursday found Petersburg officers and their families on the pool deck at Acqua Apartments in Petersburg, ready to dive in to support the Special Olympics. The group usually makes the trip to Virginia Beach, but was happy to adjust to make things work in 2021.
