Police explain Bharatt’s kidnap suspect’s death: He fell from a chair

THE police service says the suspect in the Andrea Bharatt kidnapping, who died on Monday morning while in custody, was injured while being arrested at his home and fell three times, once off a chair at the Arima hospital.
Andrew “Solo” Morris, 36, was also diabetic and hypertensive.
His relatives were not told of his death until Wednesday afternoon, when members of the Victim and Witness Support Unit went to his home and offered the family counselling. The family told their attorney that was when they heard about his death.

Nine members of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) are being treated for injuries after chasing a group of suspected kidnappers in Sangre Grande on Sunday afternoon.
Police said they were searching for clues to where 22-year-old kidnap victim Andrea Bharatt was being held when they tried to arrest a group of men.
The men ran into a forested area near Azalea Crescent.
Police said because of the terrain of the area, some officers fell and were hurt, but continued to chase the men.
During the chase, the men fought the police, who managed to subdue them without using weapons.

Four men have been detained by police officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and the Anti-Kidnapping Squad(AKS) for questioning into the kidnapping of 23-year-old Andrea Bharatt.
The men ages 20-30 were held just after 11 am today – following information received by police.
The operation, which is spearheaded by Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith, led SORT officers under Sgt Mark Hernandez and the AKS to two separate homes in East Trinidad earlier this morning. Senior sources say one man was held at a home in Petit Bourg, while three men were later held at another home in Malabar.

POLICE were, up to late Sunday night, searching several areas in Sangre Grande, including Azalea Circular, Duranta Gardens, for 22-year-old clerk Andrea Bharatt, who went missing after getting intoa car she believed to be a taxi last Friday afternoon.
Four men are assisting the police with their investigations.
Several areas were searched and police said officers from the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) went to several areas in Malabar, where they found and arrested the four men. Investigators said some of Bharatt s personal belongings were also found.
