​ Secretary of Agriculture: Proposed Third Round of PA Farm Bill Funding Will Further Strengthen Resiliency of Agriculture 02/11/2021 ​ Harrisburg, PA – Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding today commended Governor Tom Wolf for once again proposing to fund the Pennsylvania Farm Bill to continue strengthening the resiliency of the industry so many rely on for life s essential needs. The 2021-22 proposal would be the third installment of funding for the PA Farm Bill, first signed into law in July 2019, and result in a total of nearly $50 million invested in the success of agriculture in the commonwealth. As our commonwealth works to recover from the initial impacts of COVID-19, there is a strengthened need to persevere and come through this stronger than ever, said Redding. We re in the midst of opening programs from the second year of funding and can see that recipients from year one of the PA Farm Bill were able to not only survive in 2020 but thrive.

Grant Funds Available for Specialty Crop Advancement

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Agriculture (SDDA) is pleased to announce Specialty Crop Block Grant Program funds are available for specialty crop advancement. The application deadline is March 31, 2021. Grant funds can be used for marketing, promotion, research, food safety, nutrition, distribution, and best management practices to advance the specialty crop industry. Specialty crops are generally defined as fruits, nuts, vegetables, honey, and some turf and ornamental crops. A full list of specialty crops is available on USDA’s website. SDDA is seeking proposals prior to USDA’s announcement of funding, so applicants should base their budgets on specific project needs. Projects selected for funding will have the opportunity to meet with the review team and make additional adjustments to their project budget based on grant funds awarded to SDDA.

The theme, “Building on Innovation: A Pathway to Resilience,” will focus on the role science and innovation have played in helping the ag sector overcome challenges during COVID-19. The program includes more than 30 sessions and 100 expert speakers. Registration is free but required to attend.  Event Date: February 18th & 19th The Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center is seeking a contractor to conduct research of New England’s distribution network capacity for value-added dairy products. The research will focus on an in-depth examination of New England’s current distribution system, capacity, and geographic considerations to determine opportunities to get dairy products to further and more robust markets.
