âI know other theater owners that Iâve talked to across the state, they were close to shutting doors down again,â he said. âBut that money helped us and kept us afloat and kept us going for a couple of more months, so it was really nice.â
Since being signed into law on March 27, 2020, the CARES Act has provided the state of Nebraska with just over $1 billion in more than 30,000 awards.
Created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program provides local governments, organizations and businesses with additional funding. Gov. Pete Ricketts announced his plan for round one on May 27, 2020, and round two on Oct. 19, 2020.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - With a pandemic and two hurricanes, the last year hasnât been easy for local small businesses, thatâs why the City of Lake Charles created the Small Business Stabilization Program.
Born from the CARES Act, Mayor Nic Hunter says the city used the funding to create the Small Business Stabilization Fund.
âWe designed this Small Business Stabilization Program - itâs actually a forgivable loan. And we used the federal guidelines to make sure that weâre following all of the rules, but this was made available to local small businesses inside the City of Lake Charles.â

Mayor Jenny A. Durkan, City Council President M. Lorena González, and Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda today celebrated the City Council’s unanimous vote to provide a new $5 million relief package to support small businesses and workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to recent statewide restrictions needed to slow the surge of COVID-19, the $5 million will be directed toward small businesses and workers in the hospitality industry. $2.5 million will go to restaurants and bars, and $2.5 million will go to hospitality workers.
