With Governor Andrew Cuomo facing multiple scandals, possible Republican candidates for top job are coming out of the woodwork.
U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin announced his candidacy last week. Both Andrew Giuliani and Rep. Elise Stefanik have expressed an interest in the job. And today, both Joel Giambra, a former Erie County executive, and Marc Molinaro, the current Duchess County executive, hinted they might consider throwing their hats into the race too.

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) More lawmakers are reacting to the 212 billion dollar state budget for 2021 to 2022.
Assemblyman Phil Palmesano calls it “fiscally irresponsible” that significantly raises taxes, spending, and state debt. Palmesano adds the budget was passed “recklessly.” Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay’s blasting Democrats, saying “One party rule has produced a tax and spend disaster that increases spending to astronomical levels.
Assemblymember Anna Kelles expressed overall support for the budget, with one exception: she had pushed for 3.5 billion dollars in the first-of-its-kind excluded workers fund. In the budget’s final draft, lawmakers agreed on 2.1 billion dollars.

It’s the time of year at the New York State Capitol when rumors are running rampant, and trying to grasp onto concrete roadblocks in budget negotiations is like trying to grasp onto smoke.
Although late budgets in Albany are by no means unusual, Assemblywoman Pat Fahy admitted that the negotiation process this year does seem to be moving a little slower.
“First of all, I think they are going a little slower than usual, which is disconcerting,” Assemblywoman Fahy said. “This is the latest for really learning things. And for me, it’s always a frustrating time of year and I know it is for every member.”
