Annual Paul E Johnson Soiree slated for June 6 Staff report PORTSMOUTH Main Street Portsmouth is inviting the community to the 11th Annual Paul E Johnson Soiree, hosted by The Lofts Coffee Company and Roastery this June 6, alongside organizing partner and founder Kevin W Johnson. The event is the largest fundraiser the Main Street Beautification Committee has each year, filling the gaps in city and private donor funding, which allows them to care for downtown parks, public spaces, and many beautification efforts from hanging baskets to flower urns, as well as maintenance efforts including grass cutting and watering contracts. The soiree is typically in September to commemorate the life of Portsmouth native and MSP founding board member Paul E Johnson. Partner Kevin W Johnson served on the program with him as inaugural board members, shaping what would become the Main Street program we have today. Several appropriations on council agenda By Patrick Keck - pkeck@aimmediamidwest.com Portsmouth City Council will meet for the first time in April at the Shawnee State University Ballroom starting at 6 p.m. on Monday. PORTSMOUTH Portsmouth City Council will reconvene for the first time this month on Monday, a meeting with 11 items on its agenda and multiple appropriations at stake. Starting with third reading, the council will review two pieces of legislation focused on renewable energy and a possible lease agreement for a museum. The former would allow the voters of Portsmouth a say in whether or not the city should adopt a Wholesale Electricity Purchase/Renewable Energy Program. As City Manager Sam Sutherland said in a letter, Athens and Chillicothe have enacted similar systems and the council would still need to draft legislation depending on the vote.
