Sheriff Proceeding With New Roofs, New Network Equipment And New Locks At Silverdale Wednesday, February 24, 2021 - by Joseph Dycus Layout of Silverdale complex The Hamilton County Commission discussed several topics pertaining to the Sheriff’s Office during their Wednesday morning meeting, including repairing and replacing roofs.   Garland/DBS, Inc. had a bid of $768,667 for replacing roofs at the facility that was recently taken back by the Sheriff s Office from a private firm.   Using a Powerpoint map of Silverdale, Sheriff Jim Hammond showed the County Commission which roofs needed to be fixed.   “Charlie Building and Echo Building are the two we’re talking about being replaced now,” Sheriff Hammond said.

Clergy Group Alleges Excessive Force Against Sheriff s Office; Sheriff Hammond Responds Wednesday, February 17, 2021 Chattanooga Clergy and community members said they were demanding the Sheriff s Office release a public report detailing training standards and more surrounding policies of excessive force. They said they wanted this report to be sent out by March 12 at the latest. Sheriff Jim Hammond on Wednesday replied to the group. The sheriff s office recently took over operation of the Silverdale Detention Center and has made a number of sweeps at the facility seeking contraband and weapons. A number of shanks have been found. In a press release sent out on Sunday afternoon, the Chattanooga Clergy for Justice said:

Section Of Fence At Silverdale Detention Center Found To Have Been Cut; All Inmates Accounted For Tuesday, February 2, 2021 Hamilton County Sheriff s Office corrections personnel conducting a routine patrol of the property at Silverdale Detention Center on Tuesday morning located a section of the outer perimeter fence that had been cut. Once the damage was located, the inmates at Silverdale Detention Center were immediately placed on lock-down and a head count was conducted.   A facility-wide headcount has been completed and all inmates are accounted for at this time, officials said.   The HCSO Criminal Investigation Division is currently investigating the damage to the outer perimeter fence and how it occurred.

5 Silverdale Inmates Charged With Attempted Murder In Attack On Fellow Prisoner; Victim Had 73 Stab Wounds In Assault Lasting 1-2 Hours Friday, January 29, 2021 Tracy Freeman Five inmates at the Silverdale Detention Center have been charged with attempted first-degree murder in an attack on a fellow prisoner that left him with 73 stab wounds. The incident happened last Oct. 5 and the victim at first declined to cooperate with investigators. The Sheriff s Office said he has now made positive identifications. Charged are Dedrick Lamont Lindsey, Jr., 26; James Costlow, 32; Maurice Thurman, Patrick Watts, 19, and Tracy Freeman, 51. They are also charged with criminal conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon in a penal institution, and aggravated riot.
