Salvation Army ends 2020 Red Kettle Campaign with competition

Leesburg Town Council helps Salvation Army raise funds during pandemic

Members of the Leesburg Town Council raised more than $1,300 in their friendly Red Kettle Campaign competition, where they took part in the Salvation Army’s annual holiday fundraiser. Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk and Vice Mayor Fernando “Marty” Martinez, along with council member Neil Steinberg and incoming council members Kari Nacy and Zach Cummings, helped collect donations at the Leesburg Safeway and Giant grocery stores. Funds raised from the Salvation Army’s “Red Kettle Campaign” go to serve Loudoun County residents throughout the year. The group provides emergency assistance year-round, including food and clothing and help paying rent and utility bills.

The nonprofit brought in $2.4 million in 2019 to support Christmas assistance and fund programs throughout the year in Northern California and Northern Nevada.  The Salvation Army has brought in just over $1.6 million thus far this year. With just a few days left in the campaign, the nonprofit is asking those in the community who are able, to give and support their neighbors in need.
