Legal proceedings started against case of COVID-19 Patient 1440
Director of An Giang province’s Department of Public Security, Col. Dinh Van Noi, announced on December 30 that the department’s Investigation Security Agency has issued a decision to begin legal proceedings in a case of organising illegal entry into Vietnam in the local district of An Phu on December 24.
Noi said that the investigation detected signs of criminal activity in the case, and decided to commence legal proceedings to expand investigations.
The province’s Department of Public Security is coordinating with the provincial Border Guard and An Phu district authorities in catching those that helped COVID-19 Patient 1440 illegally enter Vietnam.
Vietnam’s sixth carrier to take off in mid-January

Vietravel Airlines, Vietnam’s sixth carrier, has received permission to fly aircraft for commercial purposes, and plans to begin operations in mid-January.
It
received the aircraft operator certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) last week, the last permit it needed to fly.
Vietravel would start selling tickets in January, Vu Duc Bien, its general director, said. It targets breaking even in its second year of operations, he said.
2020 and Covid-19: Vietnamese economy down but not out

Covid-19 crippled key sectors and the economy plunged in 2020, but Vietnam expects to make a strong recovery after managing the pandemic effectively. 2020 has been a particularly difficult year for Vietnam with most sectors, especially services and manufacturing, suffering Covid-19 impacts. This has resulted in dwindling GDP growth, said economist Le Dang Doanh.
The country began the year with a 6.8 percent GDP growth target after growing by more than 7 percent the previous two years, but the Covid-19 pandemic pushed most targets beyond reach.
