The Centre started the ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ on May 6 to help those stranded overseas due to the novel coronavirus pandemic reach their destinations via international repatriation flights.
According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, 14,014 repatriation flights were operated by the Air India Group under the Vande Bharat Mission till January 14, carrying over 18.79 lakh passengers. Of these, 7,001 were inbound flights carrying 11.33 lakh passengers and 7,013 were outbound flights with 7.45 lakh fliers.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has booked an Assistant Section Officer of the Civil Aviation Ministry for allegedly attempting to extort bribe from the managing director of an air transport service provider company for a no-objection certificate.
The accused has been identified as Vinay Kumar, against whom the Ministry had lodged a complaint alleging that he received “undue advantage” and also attempted to get bribe while dealing with a file pertaining to a request for no-objection certificate by Shyson Thomas, managing director of Air Pegasus Private Limited.

Biometric entry passes at airports will take more time before becoming a reality, with technical issues forcing authorities to delay its roll out for the third time in less than six months. The government has decided to provide biometric entry passes for employees of airlines, airports, ground handling agencies and other individuals working inside the aerodromes.

According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, 13,814 repatriation flights were operated by the Air India Group under the Vande Bharat Mission till January 12, carrying over 18.51 lakh passengers. Of these, 6,904 were inbound flights carrying 11.18 lakh passengers and 6,910 were outbound flights with 7.32 lakh fliers.
