New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry Monday said that those coming from the UK, which is facing the emergence of a new and highly infectious strain of coronavirus, will be tested at the airports and if found positive, will be sent for institutional quarantine set up by the states and union territories.
India Monday announced a temporary ban on flights coming from the UK till 11.59 p.m. December 31. The suspension commences from 11.59 p.m. December 22.
Earlier Monday, the Health Ministry called an emergency meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group and the Vaccine Task Force to discuss the emergence of the mutated variant of coronavirus in the UK.

A number of countries like Canada, Turkey, Belgium, Italy and Israel have banned flights from the UK as the British government warned that the potent new strain of the virus was out of control and imposed a stringent new stay-at-home lockdown from Sunday.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Monday announced that the government has decided that all flights originating from the UK to India will be suspended considering the emergence of a new and highly infectious strain of the coronavirus in Britain.
On its official Twitter account, the Civil Aviation Ministry said that the flights will be suspended from December 22 (23.59 hours) till December 31, 2020.
In a follow-up tweet, it said, “As a measure of abundant precaution, passengers arriving from the UK in all transit flights (flights that have taken off or flights which are reaching India before 22nd Dec at 23.59 hrs) should be subject to mandatory RT-PCR test on arrival at the airports concerned.”
