Dasu blast effect: Pakistan replaces Asim Bajwa as head of CPEC Islamabad, Aug 3 (UNI) A fortnight after nine Chinese workers were killed in a blast at Dasu prompting China to suspend work on a key hydropower plant linked to the ambitious China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, the Pakistan government on Tuesday replaced retired Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa as the authority to lead the affairs of the corridor project. A notification issued by the Prime Minister s Office said that Khalid Mansoor had been appointed as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on CPEC Affairs with immediate effect. The appointment will be in an honorary capacity, Dawn reported.

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday appointed Khalid Mansoor as his special assistant on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) affairs after which CPEC Authority Chairman retired Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa quit his position. The government believes that Mr Mansoor, having a vast experience of working as head of several organisations, would lead the second phase of the CPEC to be focused on industrial cooperation in a better way. After departure of Mr Bajwa, the post of CPEC Authority chairman has fallen vacant and it is expected that Mr Mansoor will be given an additional charge of this office in the days to come.

CPEC projects in Pakistan face delays ANI 04 Aug 2021, 13:55 GMT+10 Islamabad [Pakistan], August 4 (ANI): A number of projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), including those in the power sector, are currently facing delays for various reasons including the ongoing pandemic. The CPEC multi-billion-dollar economic cooperation had not been able to complete the projects over the last three years and to maintain the impetus that delivered a series of power plants and other infrastructure projects in the first phase of the CPEC implementation, reported Dawn. The Pak-China Relations Steering Committee on Monday directed finalisation of a uniform policy framework within a month for extension in commercial operation dates (CODs) of five power projects of about 3,600 megawatts being set up under the CPEC.
