A former gang member has taken issue with his four-year jail sentence for robbery and assault charges and warned a judge his support network might be gone by the time he gets out.
A Taranaki gang member who had admitted his part in using standover tactics to steal a car has had his request to cancel his guilty pleas, in order to get into a rehab program, dismissed.
The men demanded the victims hand over a Nissan motor vehicle, which they had recently bought, because Oldfield claimed the previous owner owed him a debt. The trio left the address telling the male victim it was “all good” but later returned at 11.30pm with Bryden Lee and Thomas Holland, both members of the Uru Taha gang. Oldfield, who was armed with a steel pipe, forcefully pushed his way inside when the door was opened and the others followed. They demanded the victim hand over the Nissan, but it had been hidden at another address due to concerns after the previous visit.
