Florida health care leaders discussed the road ahead for value-based care systems at the 2021 Florida State of Reform Health Policy Conference.
Different silos, from state hospitals to accountable care organizations to the insurance sector, came together to assess the move to value based care and the work still to come.
Elizabeth Miller introduced the current state of value-based care approaches, saying there should be a standardization of models across providers. Even if those conversations are taking place between organizations at the executive level, she continued, they don’t always filter down to the providers themselves. Miller said:

A panel of doctors, legislators and community leaders discussed the impact of racism in American health care at the 2021 Maryland State of Reform Health Policy Conference.
Drawing from their own experiences, panelists discussed the way racism impacts different health care silos and what can be done to promote health equity. The conversation featured Sen. Mary Washington, Dr. Nicole Rochester, Dr. Michelle Gourdine, and Rev. Dr. Sandra Conner of Sehpard’s Hear Missionary Baptist Church.
The panelists begin with a deeper look into the history of American policy making and health care institutions, highlighting the underlying ideologies of white supremacy that exist within these institutions and continue to cause disparities for communities of color.

It’ll be in-person at the Dena’Ina Convention Center, as well as virtually at our digital conference platform. At the 2021 Maryland State of Reform Health Policy, US Senator Chris Van Hollen provided an update on Maryland’s economic recovery and the health policy conversations taking place in his caucus and in the Senate Budget Committee.
In the near term, Van Hollen is focused on securing health reforms in President Biden’s American Jobs Plan.
When asked where he stood on the intraparty conversation taking place among Democrats about whether to build on the Affordable Care Act or go beyond it, Van Hollen said he favored the latter.
