The nearest challenger to Jones, Conservative James Hart received 21,019 votes in total with 28.4 per cent of the vote in the first round of voting.
The party were hoping to mirror success seen in the Hartlepool by-election in which the Tories took the parliamentary seat in the Labour stronghold.
Despite falling short, The Tories increased their mayoral vote share by around 8,000.
Independent candidate Frank Calladine beat the Green Party, Yorkshire Party and Reform UK came to finish in third with 5,166.
Speaking after the result, Jones said: “I would like to thank those residents of Doncaster who have voted for me. I am privileged and humbled to lead our beloved borough as the Labour mayor for a third term.

The Senedd election in 2021 will always be the vote that took place during a pandemic.
There was less campaigning, rfewer controversies. And it may be an overused sentence, but it really has been an election like no other.
PUBLIC backing for the Welsh Government’s approach to handling Covid-19 helped Labour to hold onto its Senedd seat in Wrexham, according to the winning candidate. Lesley Griffiths was today (Friday 7 May) elected to serve the constituency in the Welsh Parliament for a fourth successive term after beating Conservative Jeremy Kent by 1,350 votes. The result came despite suggestions in the build-up to Thursday’s polling day that the Tories could be about to repeat the shock victory they pulled off in the area at the 2019 general election. Both parties fought a hard campaign in Wrexham with Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak visiting in support of Mr Kent.
VAUGHAN Gething has retained his seat in the Senedd. Mr Gething, who has represented Cardiff South and Penarth since 2011, has secured his seat by a majority of more than 10,000 votes. The Labour representative received 13,153 votes. I m delighted with the result, he said. A really strong showing across Cardiff South and Penarth. When we saw the boxes being opened in Penarth we also saw there was a very strong showing there. It was hard to tell how all of the votes scattered amongst the fringe parties, but in the main parties it was clear that we were going to have a good result.
VOTE counting is underway for Clwyd West after people across Conwy went to the polls on Thursday. Speaking to Jez Hemmings, Local Democracy Reporter, he said: “Things look very close. I think it’s a two-horse race between us and the Conservatives but I think we’re definitely still in the race.
