NYC Mayoral Candidates Target Guns And Policing

AP Photo/Mark Lennihan For almost a year now we’ve been discussing the growing paradox for Democrats when it comes to policing and gun control. Most of the party is fully on board with creating new, non-violent, possessory firearm crimes that will be enforced by the police while at the same time they’re calling for defunding law enforcement and “reimagining policing” because they believe the current system is rife with systemic racism. You’d think by now they would have realized that they can’t have it both ways, but most Democrats are still willing to ignore inherent contradiction between the desire for more gun laws and the growing opposition to law enforcement, including the bulk of those Democrats running to be the next mayor of New York City.

The Times asked the candidates whether they know the median sales price for a home or apartment in Brooklyn. Donovan, a former federal housing secretary, guessed it is around $100,000, while McGuire said, It s got to be somewhere in the $80,000 to $90,000 range, if not higher.

SHARE: Candidates for mayor of New York City have made their cases this year in Zoom forums and delivered impassioned stump speeches, but there may be no pitch as effortlessly engaging as a candidate joyfully dancing toward a camera, telling New Yorkers she’s “on her way to replace Bill de Blasio as NYC’s first afro latina mayor.” That’s what former nonprofit leader Dianne Morales did in one of her TikTok videos last fall, amassing over half a million views. Morales has combined effective online communication and organizing with the farthest-left platform in the race to amass a progressive, young fan base that has propelled her from a relatively unknown nonprofit leader to a champion of the left. Morales supporters congregate on online platforms such as TikTok, Twitter and even the audio chatroom Clubhouse. On Twitter especially, fans of the candidate can be spotted easily by their profile photos set against purple, pink and orange gradient backgrounds. This sunset-color

With NYC mayoral primary just weeks away, Ray McGuire takes swing at Yang, ambiguous on Stringer scandal

With NYC mayoral primary just weeks away, Ray McGuire takes swing at Yang, ambiguous on Stringer scandal Michael Gartland New York City mayoral candidate Ray McGuire took aim Monday at frontrunner rival Andrew Yang, saying he’s “never run anything, other than his mouth.” In an interview with the Daily News editorial board Monday afternoon, McGuire, a former Citi exec who’s been trailing in recent polls, made his case to become New York City’s next mayor, claiming he’s the only candidate who can negotiate both on a corporate level and with community interests like NYCHA residents, wary of potential changes.

Accusation of sexual harassment against Stringer throws

SHARE: Lagging Andrew Yang and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams in the polls, but flush with campaign cash and progressive endorsements, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer seemed to have a shot at winning the race to be the next New York City mayor – but only if the two months before the June 22 Democratic primary went perfectly for him. And the very first thing that had to go right would be consolidating support in the field’s left lane against the two moderate frontrunners. Then, on Wednesday, Jean Kim, a lobbyist and former volunteer on Stringer’s unsuccessful 2001 campaign for New York City public advocate alleged that he subjected her to sexual harassment and abuse. Stringer denies the allegations, which include groping and repeated unwanted sexual propositions, but their existence will make it much more difficult for Stringer to claim the mantle as the progressive choice for New York City voters.
