A runway of Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City has been reopened after being shut down for over six months for an upgrade.
The Ministry of Transport on Sunday organized a ceremony to mark the completion of the first phase of a project on upgrading the 25L/07R runway at the airport.
Vietnam Airlines’ flight VN1828 from Phu Quoc Island was the first to land on the runway at 3:00 pm the same day.

VnExpress reports that an upgraded runway opened to flight operations on Sunday at both Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.
Trần Văn Thi, director of the Cuu Long Corporation for Investment, Development and Project Management, which oversaw the work, told the news source that renovations took just over six months and were completed on schedule. The repaired facilities will help both airports handle the upcoming domestic travel surge for the Tet holiday.
Here in Saigon, an additional four taxiways were also built at Tan Son Nhat, along with an improved signaling system and aviation signs at a cost of US$86 million. Further work is underway, and by the end of this year five old taxiways will be renovated, while new rapid exit taxiways will be constructed as well, in addition to an improved drainage system.

Runway 07R/025 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City will be put into use again on Sunday after six months of closure for upgrading, according to Cuu Long Corporation for Investment, Development and Project Management of Infrastructure under the Ministry of Transport.
Pham Duy Lai, deputy director of the company, said the inauguration of the newly-upgraded will take place on January 10.
The facility, which is 3.048m long and 45.72m wide, is one of the two runways of Tan Son Nhat, the largest airport in Vietnam.
In mid-December 2020, the investor of the upgrading project hired a foreign agency to conduct flight calibration, ensuring the runway meet 4E technical requirements of international airports.

Former Hanoi chairman expelled from Party
The Party Central Committee on December 17 expelled former Hanoi chairman Nguyen Duc Chung from the Party over his serious violations.
The decision was announced at the 14th plenum of the Party Central Committee, the local media reported.
Early this month, the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission proposed the Politburo and the Party Central Committee expel Chung from the Party, who was being prosecuted, detained and suspended from Party activities at the time.
According to the Inspection Commission, Chung seriously violated Party regulations and the State law on protecting State secrets as well as regulations on activities that Party members are banned from, damaging the prestige of the Party and himself.
